3 steps to a healthier diet
Do you want to eat smarter?

If so, it's as easy as one, two, three.

• One: Start with breakfast.
Eating a healthy breakfast will give you the energy you need to get through your busy day. And best of all, it'll help you do better in school. So have a bowl of cereal and a banana or toast with peanut butter and milk. Try an egg with tomato and cheese or yogurt sprinkled with cereal. You even can have leftover pizza.

• Two: Skip the soda.
Would you eat 10 teaspoons of sugar? Probably not, but that's what you're doing when you have a can of soda. Instead of soda, try water or low-fat milk. You can add some chocolate syrup to milk and still be healthy.

• Three: Snacks are a great way to refuel your body, so make them count.

Choose healthy snacks such as pretzels, breadsticks or baby carrots. Fruit also is a great snack. You can have it dried (raisins or apricots), canned (fruit cocktail in its own juice or pineapple) or fresh (apple, orange, pear or kiwi) or even frozen. Try freezing bananas or grapes for a different treat. Or make your own healthy Popsicle by freezing fruit juice in ice-cube trays or paper cups with a wooden stick. Another idea is to take half of a peeled banana, insert a wooden stick and roll it in yogurt or chocolate syrup and cornflakes.

Wrap the banana in plastic wrap and freeze it.
Follow these simple tips and you're on your way to smarter eating and a healthier lifestyle.
