Stressed spelled backward is desserts
Don't turn to food to fend off stress
Good nutrition does not need to be stressful, and stress doesn't have to lead to poor nutrition.
Stress and food are part of life.
The key lies in how we handle them.
Start by examining your eating patterns and what led you to make those choices. Are you eating due to hunger or for comfort? When we are truly hungry our body is telling us it's time to refuel. If you are seeking comfort, look at some calorie-free comforts to help fill the void. Consider going for a walk or walking a pet, taking a bath, listening to relaxing music or calling a friend.
If boredom is the cause for your craving, recognize that food gives only a temporary relief. It may take 5 minutes to eat a bowl of ice cream. Losing yourself in a good book or a project around the house can last much longer - with more satisfaction.
Can't sleep? Try a warm beverage. A glass of milk or herbal tea may help you fall asleep. Resist the temptation to eat a meal during the night.
How do you spell relief in times of stress? It's important to equip yourself with stress relievers so you do not automatically turn to food. A journal or a candle can do wonders to help you deal with the stressful moments.
Good nutrition is a comfort when you are eating your three meals a day, snacking in moderation and enjoying the taste of healthy foods. A diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy, whole grains and lean protein is a stress-free recipe for health.
