Insurance covers chiropractic care
Question:
Do HMOs cover chiropractic care? - Rob, Herkimer
Answer:
Yes, all New York state HMOs cover chiropractic care. In January 1998, Gov. George Pataki signed into law an insurance equality bill, which guarantees chiropractic coverage to all who have health insurance in New York state.
This law opened the doors for thousands of New Yorkers who otherwise would have paid out of their pockets for chiropractic treatment. While most insurance plans such as Point of Service, PPOs, Medicare, No-Fault and workers' compensation allow you to choose your chiropractor, most HMOs require a referral from a primary medical provider. Call your HMO to find out about your benefits.
